TalkTalk announced last week that Gary Steen, an IT industry leader, has begun his new position as Chief Technology Officer. Steen has replaced Clive Dorsman who retired this summer after 17 years at the company. Steen is now leading the group technology capability, overseeing major information technology projects, and leading the group technology strategy.

With over 25% of the company’s UK workforce working directly under the Chief Technology Officer, Steen’s new role holds a lot of power within the organization. Steen now reports directly to TalkTalk Chief Executive, Dido Harding. With an experienced industry leader taking on a new role within the company, TalkTalk is planning some exciting new projects. DiscoverOrg is the first to report on upcoming projects in the IT industry.

New Growth and Innovation

TalkTalk is planning to improve performance and resilience to meet the growing business’s needs. With the release of a fiber network on the horizon in collaboration with Sky and CityFibre, the future looks bright for the company.

Harding said, “We’re delighted to appoint Gary as CTO. Having been with us for over two years already, Gary fully understands our commitment to making Britain better off by providing customers with simple, value for money products, all made possible thanks to our state of the art network.  His wealth of expertise in technical innovation will strengthen our position even further.”

“It’s an exciting time for TalkTalk.” said Steen, “We’re Britain’s fastest growing TV service, TalkTalk Business is one of the fastest growing B2B telecom operators in the UK and we have a great strategic advantage in our wholly-owned Next Generation Network. Demand for data is exploding and this, coupled with the exciting new innovation projects we have in the pipeline, means it’s a fantastic time to be taking on this role.”

Experienced Telecommunications Leader

Steen has been with TalkTalk for two years as Chief Development & Delivery Officer where he was responsible for application delivery, implementing delivery engagement models, and improving customer experience while controlling costs. Prior to joining TalkTalk in 2012, Steen’s over 20 years of IT industry experience included a variety of telecommunications companies including AOL, BT, O2, Carphone Warehouse, and Vodafone. His previous positions have given him plenty of experience in business transformation and technology innovation, including the design and implementation of new telecommunications systems.

Leading Telecommunications Company

TalkTalk was founded in 2003 as a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse and branched out as a solo business in 2010. The company provides telecommunications, television, internet access, and mobile network services to individual and corporate consumers in the United Kingdom. As the company expands to provide new services to their customers, we can expect to see new innovations in the IT department to support the company’s growth.

DiscoverOrg’s research shows that new CIOs make some of the largest and most important purchasing decisions within three months of starting their new position.
