Leadership Moves

Leading computer security, backup and availability solutions software corporation Symantec has named Sheila Jordan as Chief Information Officer, effective February 18th. The announcement comes alongside recent news of a management overhaul for the Fortune 500 Company, indicating a time of change and turbulence. Although some view Symantec’s upheaval as a reflection of hard economic times, we view it as an opportunity for growth and change. Improve your sales effectiveness by uncovering the massive selling potential within these leadership changes.

Know the Company and Your Contact

Jordan was chosen for her new role based on her strong experience with multi-platform collaboration, women’s leadership initiatives, and mobile channels. She also comes highly praised for her experience with Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies, which Symantec will look to incorporate in the future.

“I am thrilled to help advance Symantec’s 4.0 strategy and leverage my experience integrating systems to bolster best-in-class information infrastructure,” said Jordan. “My goal is to drive increased productivity, better efficiency and strategic business partnerships, through simple and intuitive experiences for our global workforce.”

Replacing Marty Hodgett, Jordan will join Symantec in her new role on February 18th, where she will report to Stephen Gillett, Chief Operating Officer.

“Sheila is a dynamic leader with the experience to build and lead the Symantec IT strategy,” said Gillett. “She will drive the strategy forward by ensuring we have the right talent, staying ahead of technology trends and maximizing the value we get out of our technology investments.”

Most recently Jordan served as Senior Vice President of Communication & Collaboration at Cisco, where she has worked for the last nine years. Prior to that, her roles include Chief Information Officer at Grand Circle Corporation and Senior Vice President at Walt Disney World.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Central Florida, and her MBA from Florida University of Technology. In 2011, she was named One to Watch by CIO Magazine.

Increase Your Sales Effectiveness and Seal the Deal

Knowing that Symantec has recently faced organizational upheaval and reported a complete overhaul of the sales department, we can conclude that the company is looking for more than just a change in leadership. We know that this is a time where all aspects of the company will be reevaluated and additional changes will be made. We can also conclude that this is the RIGHT time for you to get in touch with the RIGHT people. Increase your sales effectiveness by recognizing the power of change within an organization, and the opportunity it creates.

We recently surveyed CIOs who had been in their new position for less than six months. Results showed that 25% of them spent over $1 million, and 71% of those IT leaders did so in the first three months of their new position. So while Symantec works to find stability within their organization, you are given the opportunity to make a case for your products and services.
